Welcome to the
Conserve Florida Water Conservation GUIDE!
(Note: GUIDE application is not supported by the Safari Web
browser) The GUIDE (http://www.conservefloridawater.org/guide.asp)
is your utility's pathway toward improved water use efficiency, which
helps protect Florida's unique water resources while saving money for
both you and your customers. Development of the GUIDE is required by
section 373.227, Florida Statutes, and has been a cooperative
undertaking of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the
South Florida Water Management District; the St. Johns River Water
Management District; the Southwest Florida Water Management District;
the Northwest Florida Water Management District; the Suwannee River
Water Management District; the Florida Public Service Commission; the
Utility Council of the American Water Works Association, Florida
Section; the Utility Council of the Florida Water Environment
Association; and the Florida Rural Water Association; as well as other
individuals and organizations. Through a contract with the Department
of Environmental Protection, software design and development services
were provided by Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. The GUIDE is based on
achieving genuine water savings rather than implementing a fixed list
of particular water conservation measures or best management
practices:
The goal setting process involves evaluation of the
potential water savings based on a detailed utility profile, takes
full advantage of conservation opportunities, focuses on the areas of
most effective water savings, and results in the sum of the
anticipated gallons saved through the implementation of feasible and
cost-effective conservation measures and best management practices.
For each utility, the result can be expressed as gallons saved,
percent reduction, or gallons per capita per day.
The GUIDE is hosted by the Conserve Florida Clearinghouse, managed
by the University of Florida under contract with the sponsoring
organizations. The GUIDE and the Clearinghouse assist public water
suppliers in developing goal-based water conservation plans adapted to
their individual Utility Profiles. The GUIDE also assists suppliers in
monitoring Plan implementation and in reporting water conservation
results to the relevant water management district and the statewide
Clearinghouse.
The GUIDE is an on-line web-based application. The GUIDE is
currently being Beta tested,
so there may be anomalies while using the application. A feedback
notification system will soon be implemented to identify anomalies so
they can be addressed in a timely manner. Although using the GUIDE is
generally intuitive, you may wish to refer first to the Flowchart in
the User's Manual (Figure 2). A link to download the User's Manual is
available on all screens of the GUIDE.
Please report any issue or supply feedback about operation of the
